 Chemistry department comments: 
 Use the WebReg add/drop system for adds, drops, and changes until Friday, October 12, 2007. 
 NO ADDS OR CHANGES ALLOWED AFTER THE 2ND WEEK. 
 NO DROPS ALLOWED AFTER THE 2ND WEEK IN LOWER DIVISION CHEMISTRY COURSES. THE UPPER DIVISION COURSES WILL CONTINUE WITH THE NO DROPS AFTER 6TH WEEK POLICY. 
 NO LAB CHANGES AFTER WEEK 1.

 PREREQUISITES: 
 Can't access a Chemistry course? Fax, email, or bring a copy of your transtript to the Chemistry Undergraduate Program Office in NS2 1202 prior to your enrollment in order to clear the prerequisite. Always include your ID number and name on any documentation you submit for verification. 
 A complete listing of course prerequisites can be found at http://webster.reg.uci.edu:8800/cgi-bin/prrqcgi. 
 If you don't meet the prerequisites for the course, you will be dropped from the course by the Chemistry Department. 
 STUDENTS WITH AP CREDIT: 
 Have a score of 4 or 5 on the College Board Advanced Placement Chemistry Examination? 
 You do not take the Chemistry Placement Exam and are ineligible for enrollment in Chemistry 1A during the academic year. Students with AP credit exempting them from Chemistry 1A will have the choice of beginning with Chemistry 1B in Winter quarter or enrolling in Chemistry H2A, Honors General Chemistry, in the Fall quarter. 
 The Chemistry Department will allow students who have earned Chemistry 1A credit via AP to enroll in the Summer Session Chemistry 1A at UCI in order to fulfill professional school admission requirements. NO CREDIT will be given for grades and units earned in this course during Summer Session. Make sure you choose the AUDIT option when you enroll. 
 Students with a score of 3 or lower on the AP Chemistry exam? are required to take the Chemistry Placement exam. 
 ARE YOU ENROLLING IN SUMMER SESSION OR IN AN EQUIVALENT AT ANOTHER SCHOOL? 
 Fax or bring a copy of your Summer Session enrollment confirmation to the Chemistry Department Undergraduate Program Office in NS2 1202 prior to enrolling in fall quarter 2007 in order to clear the prerequisite. A copy of your transcript is required once the summer session course is completed. 
 REPEAT STUDENTS: 
 You will not have access to the Chemistry courses you wish to repeat when your enrollment window initially opens. 
 1) Only one repeat of a Chemistry course allowed during the academic year. You are encouraged to retake lower division Chemistry courses during summer session I & II. 
 2) Can't advance to the next course? Enroll at the adjustment period starting September 21, 2007, at 5pm. 
 3) Receive a C-? Enroll on the first day of classes, September, 27, 2007. 
 IMPORTANT LABORATORY INFORMATION: 
 1) Safety glasses and lab aprons are required. You must bring these items to your first laboratory session. If you do not attend your first laboratory session, you will receive a zero grade for that week and lose your space in the section. 
 2) Refer to the following web sites for a list of course materials, changes, updates and announcements: General Chemistry Laboratory web site http://eee.uci.edu/programs/gchem and Organic Chemistry Laboratory web site http://eee.uci.edu 
 3) A NON-REFUNDABLE $50.00 lab fee will be added to your Zot Bill starting at 5pm on Friday at the end of the first week of classes, October 5, 2007. If you switch sections during the first week of classes, be sure you officially change your enrollment before 5pm on October 13, 2007; otherwise, you will be double-billed for the lab fee. 
 4) University Extension students enrolled in a laboratory course do not pay the $50.00 lab fee.

 Go to the Chemistry Department Undergraduate Program Office in NS2 1202. Open hours for the Fall quarter are MWF 9-11:30am & Tu Th 12:30-2:30pm. Open hours for the Welcome Week and the first week of classes starting Thursday, September 27, 2007, through Friday, October 5, 2007 are 9:30-11:30 am & 12:30-2:30pm Monday through Friday.  Non-Majors restrictions will be lifted 48 hours after the last fall quarter enrollment window opens. Exception: General Chemistry Labs. 
 Electronic Homework Problems for General Chemistry Lecture and Laboratory: 
 1. McWeb problems for General Chemistry lecture? Email McWeb@ps.uci.edu regarding your problem. 
 2. WebWork problems for General Chemistry laboratory? Go to the Chemistry Lab website at http://www.eee.uci.edu. 
 Concurrent enrollment is REQUIRED for chemistry courses. Enroll in a Chemistry lecture, a discussion associated with that lecture, a Chemistry laboratory, and a laboratory lecture when applicable. (Exception: unless otherwise stated or if you have prior credit for lecture or laboratory) Attendance for week 1 is mandatory. 
  Chem   1A     GENERAL CHEMISTRY
 
    Prerequisites for Chem 1A are 1) a passing score on the UCI Chemistry Placement Exam within one year; or 2) a grade of C or better in Chem 1P (Preparation for General Chemistry) at UCI. The Chemistry Department does not accept preparatory courses from other academic institutions.
    Check with the Testing office (949-824-6207) or http://www.testingoffice.uci.edu for details about the Chemistry Exam. Students with grades below C in Chem 1P are able to re-take the Chemistry Placement Exam to qualify for Chem 1A.
    Concurrent enrollment in a Chem 1A lecture and a discussion associated with your lecture is required.
    Chem 1A is restricted to certain majors when enrollment windows open: Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Nursing, Physical Science, Public Health Science, and Undecided/Undeclared. Other majors may enroll during the first week of classes if space is available.
    We will offer Chem 1A in Summer 2007, session two, Winter 2008, Spring 2008, and Summer 2008, session two.
    The repeat restriction for Chem 1A will not be lifted at the adjustment period or the first day of classes.

    CHEMISTRY 1LE IS RESTRICTED TO ENGINEERING MAJORS ONLY WHO ARE NOT CONTINUING ON TO ORGANIC CHEMISTRY. Concurrent enrollment in Chem 1A lecture, a discussion associated with your lecture, laboratory discussion, and a Chem 1LE laboratory is required. Laboratory will begin Monday, OCTOBER 1, 2007.
