Mathematics

	Mathematics department comments:
	All Mathematics courses will use the Electronic Add/Drop system (EAD) for adds, drops and changes in grade option during the first two weeks of classes.
	WARNING: Many sections will fill to capacity, so students should plan their schedules carefully and enroll as early as possible. Refer to http://math.uci.edu/courses/policy.html for the Department's Add policy.
	Enrollment in lecture and discussion or lab (where offered) is required. Choose discussions, or labs directly below lecture.
	Please check your UCInet e-mail address for correspondence from Mathematics Dept.
	Classroom/time changes may occur after the release of this schedule. Please continue to check WebSOC for the latest information.
	The Math Department Tutoring Center for all lower division courses will begin the second week of classes. The location and hours will be announced.
	REPEAT STUDENTS: You will not have access to lower-division Math courses you wish to repeat when your enrollment window opens. If your grade was D+ or below, enroll during the adjustment period, as space permits. If your grade was C-, enroll on the first day of class, as space permits. Alternatively, you may retake the course during Summer Session.
	Undergraduates who wish to enroll in a graduate course above 206 must obtain prior approval from the Department's Undergraduate Advisor.

Math 2A CALCULUS

"HOW TO ENROLL IN MATH 2A SPRING 2007"
WARNING: - READ CAREFULLY!!
In order to be eligible to take Math 2A in Spring 2007 you must satisfy at least one of the following ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Prerequisites for Math 2A are 1) a passing score on the Pre-Calculus Placement Exam within one academic year or 2) a grade of C or better in Math 1B at UCI (Students with grades below a C in Math 1B are able to re-take the Pre-Calculus Placement Exam).
Check with the Testing office (949-824-6207) or http://www.testingoffice.uci.edu for details and Pre-Calculus Exam dates.
If you satisfy at least one of the criteria (1) or (2) above, you should enroll in Math 2A through WebReg as you would any other course. (Exception: Students who wish to repeat Math 2A and students with Advanced Placement credit in calculus, see below).
WARNING: From time to time, during the enrollment period the Math Department will run "Prerequisite Checks", and MAY DROP FROM MATH 2A students who have not satisfied the prerequisites for the course; the spaces in Math 2A formerly allocated to those students will be opened to others. If you find that you have been dropped, you must satisfy the prerequisite BEFORE you attempt to enroll again.
STUDENTS TAKING MATH 1B DURING WINTER 2007: No prerequisite checks will be done until the Department knows the grades from MATH 1B in the winter quarter.
STUDENTS WISHING TO REPEAT MATH 2A:
(a) If you FAILED Math 2A (grade of F or NP), or if you passed Math 2A with a grade of D-, D, D+ or C-: you must satisfy at least one of the Eligibility Criteria (1) or (2) above BEFORE attempting to enroll for Spring 2007.
(b) If you PASSED MATH 2A or any course WITH GRADE OF C (2.0) or P OR BETTER, you are not allowed to repeat the course.
(c) You will not be able to enroll when your enrollment window opens. Enroll during the adjustment period if you previously earned a grade of F, D-, D, D+ or until the first day of instruction as space permits if you previously earned a grade of C-.
STUDENTS WITH AP CREDIT IN CALCULUS: If your score on the College Board Advanced Placement Calculus Examination is 1, 2 or 3 on the AB Exam, or 1 or 2 on the BC Exam, then you should take the UCI Pre-Calculus Exam and, if you satisfy the prerequisites listed above, enroll in Math 2A. If you get a score of 4 or 5 on the AB Exam or 3, 4 or 5 on the BC Exam, you should NOT take Math 2A at all.
