 Important Information
If you are unable to add the Chemistry course you need on WEBREG, it may mean the prerequisite for that course has not been met or we don't know about it.
Did you take a prerequisite at another institute? Fax or bring a copy of your transcript to the Chemistry Department Undergraduate Program Office in RH 250 in order to clear your prerequisite before you will be able to enroll in a chemistry course.
Enrolled students who do not meet the prerequisites due to a grade preventing them from continuing in the series will be dropped from the class roster by the Chemistry Department.
Use the WEBREG for adds, drops, and changes until Friday, Oct. 8, 2004.
UPDATES: SCHEDULE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. You should check the Registrar's Searchable Schedule of Classes for possible changes to course information BEFORE classes begin.
NO ADDS OR CHANGES ALLOWED AFTER THE 2ND WEEK.
NO DROPS ALLOWED AFTER THE 6TH WEEK.
TRANSFER STUDENTS AND STUDENTS WITH AP CREDIT:
Have a score of 4 or 5 on the College Board Advanced Placement Chemistry Examination? You do not take the Chemistry Placement Exam and are ineligible for enrollment in Chemistry 1A during the academic year. Students with AP credit exempting them from Chemistry 1A will have the choice of beginning with Chemistry 1B in Winter quarter or enrolling in Chemistry H2A, Honors General Chemistry, in the Fall quarter. The Chemistry Department will allow students who have earned Chemistry 1A credit via AP to enroll in the Summer Session Chemistry 1A at UCI in order to fulfill professional school admission requirements. NO CREDIT will be given for grades and units earned in this course. Choose the audit option when you enroll in the summer session. Fax or bring a copy of your AP score to the Chemistry Undergraduate Program Office once summer session starts.
Have a score of 3 or lower on the AP Chemistry exam?
You are required to take the Chemistry Placement exam.
Do you have transfer credit for the prerequisite course in chemistry? Fax or bring a copy of your transcript to the Chemistry Department Undergraduate Program Office in RH 250.
STUDENTS ENROLLING IN SUMMER SESSION AT UCI OR EQUIVALENT AT ANOTHER SCHOOL: Fax or bring a copy of your Summer Session enrollment confirmation to the Chemistry Department Undergraduate Program Office in RH 250.
 REPEAT STUDENTS:
You will not have access to the Chemistry courses you wish to repeat when your enrollment window initially opens.
 1) You may not repeat a Chemistry course more than once during the academic year. You are encouraged to retake lower division Chemistry courses during summer session I & II.
 2) Did your grade prevent you from advancing in the series or to the next course level? Enroll at the adjustment period starting September 17, 2004, at 5pm.
 3) Receive a C-? Enroll on the first day of classes, September 24, 2004.
 IMPORTANT LABORATORY INFORMATION:
 1) Safety glasses and lab aprons are required. You must bring these items to your first laboratory session. If you do not attend your first laboratory session, you will receive a zero grade for that week and lose your space in the section.
 2) Refer to the following web sites for a list of course materials, changes, updates and announcements: General Chemistry Laboratory web site http://eee.uci.edu/programs/gchem and and Organic Chemistry Laboratory web site http://eee.uci.edu
 a) Choose course websites. b) Choose correct quarter. c) Choose Chemistry. d) Select Chem 51L labs (i.e. 51LA, 51LB, 51LC)
 3) A NON-REFUNDABLE $50.00 lab fee will be added to your Zot Bill starting at 5pm on Friday at the end of the first week of classes, October 1, 2004. If you switch sections during the first week of classes, be sure you officially change your enrollment before 5pm on October 1, 2004, or you will be double-billed for the lab fee.
 4) University Extension students enrolled in a laboratory course do not pay the $50.00 lab fee.
 FOR ASSISTANCE:
Go to the Chemistry Department Undergraduate Program Office in RH 250. Open hours for the Fall quarter are MWF 9-11:30am & Tu Th 1-3pm. Open hours for the first week of classes starting Fri., Sept. 24, 2004, through Friday, October 1, 2004, are 9:30-11:30 am & 12:30-2:30pm Monday through Friday. The phone number is (949) 824-7077.

NOTE: Non-majors who wish to enroll in major only restricted courses may enroll the first day of classes if space is available.
 NOTE: UPPER DIVISION REPEAT STUDENTS:
 1) Chemistry majors attempting to repeat an upper division course in which they have received a grade of F may enroll starting at the adjustment period, Friday, September 17, 2004.
 2) Any other Chemistry majors with a grade of C- or below (excluding an F grade) may attempt to enroll Friday, September 24, 2004, the first day of classes.
  Chem   1A     GENERAL CHEMISTRY

Prerequisites for Chem 1A are 1) a passing score on the Chemistry Placement Exam within one year; or 2) a grade of C or better in Chem 1P (Preparation for General Chemistry) at UCI (Students with grades below C in Chem 1P are able to take the Chemistry Placement Exam to qualify for Chem 1A).
